What do FAR and FRR mean for fingerprint recognition?

FAR measures false acceptance and FRR measures false rejection; both describe biometric matching performance.

False Acceptance Rate describes how often an unauthorized fingerprint might be accepted under defined test conditions. False Rejection Rate describes how often an enrolled user might be rejected. Thresholds, sensor quality, enrollment and finger condition affect both.

A headline number does not predict every real-world use. Evaluate samples with dry, wet, worn and differently positioned fingers, together with response time, enrollment and backup access.
