What is the difference between a utility-model patent and a design patent?

A utility-model patent protects a technical structure, while a design patent protects product appearance.

For BioLock products, the P50/P70 utility-model certificate relates to the electronic-lock structure, while the Q1 and P50 design certificates relate to their distinctive appearances. The protection scope is defined by each registered patent document and jurisdiction.

Buyers can use the certificate numbers to identify the Chinese registrations. Patent ownership should be considered together with specifications, test documents, inspection and warranty terms.
